Overview

Lightfoot & Wolfville is a certified organic and biodynamic farm winery located in Nova Scotia’s Annapolis Valley, nestled between the town of Wolfville and the UNESCO World Heritage site of Grand-Pré. The name of the winery – “Lightfoot & Wolfville” – represents the connection of people and place (Lightfoot is our surname and Wolfville being the name of the town), a relationship that is at the heart of everything we do. While our journey in wine growing first began in 2009 with the initial planting of grapevines, our family’s farming roots go back eight generations in the Annapolis Valley – four generations on our current home farm land where the winery sits today.

Our focus is on low-intervention, cool-climate wines that speak of their origin, including traditional method sparkling wines, aromatic whites, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Situated in close proximity to the Minas Basin and the world’s highest tidal range on the Bay of Fundy, cool breezes and excellent temperature moderation help create wines with great distinction.

In addition to nurturing nearly 40 acres of grapevines for wine production, we operate as a working biodynamic farm that also grows ingredients for the winery’s farm-to-table restaurant, including heirloom vegetables, herbs, grass-fed Wagyu beef, Southdown lamb and Mangalitsa pork. Aiming to achieve self-sufficiency as much as possible, forage for the livestock is also grown on-site and waste materials such as grape pomace and livestock manure are composted and fed back to the soil.

Our winery hospitality facility opened in 2017 and features a wine shop, tasting room, restaurant with wood-fired pizza oven, and full-service event venue – popular for hosting weddings, corporate dinner events, and more – where we serve our wines alongside local in-season ingredients, connecting guests with the unique terroir of Nova Scotia.

Dining at Lightfoot & Wolfville
The menu at our farm-to-table restaurant is seasonally focused with a coastal influence, highlighting flavours that best complement the estate’s cool climate wines. Throughout the summer months, the kitchen centres around an outdoor wood-fired pizza oven, served adjacent to the vineyard, al fresco style, with breathtaking views of Cape Blomidon and the Minas Basin. In the fall, indoor seating provides a cozy atmosphere, while the open-air patios are available on pleasant days. Summer events, such as live music, visiting chef dinners, and more, can be found on our website. Reservations are recommended.

Recognized by Canada’s 100 Best as a « Best Destination Restaurant » (2023), Lightfoot & Wolfville is a must-visit destination for guests looking to connect with the unique terroir of Nova Scotia.
