The vineyard at Sainte-Famille Winery, located near the town of Windsor in Falmouth, was founded in the mid 1980s, later becoming Sainte-Famille Wines, and became the first winery in Nova Scotia to have a female winemaker.
The name Lost Bell is inspired by the story of the lost church bell of Sainte-Famille Parish, rumoured to be filled with precious metals, and hidden in a pond at the vineyard by its former Acadian inhabitants. While it has not yet been recovered, similar bells have been unearthed in the Atlantic region.
It has always been our mission to craft exceptional wines and to create a welcoming environment for anyone who visits the winery.
Sainte-Famille is home to some of the oldest vines in the province and we grow many different varietals in our estate vineyard, including:
Winemaker Tony Barkhouse, who has been honing his skills and crafting Nova Scotia wines for more than twenty five years, was awarded prestigious double gold medal in 2019 for his signature Kingsport, a fortified red wine inspired by the bountiful local fruit of his coastal hometown.
Sainte-Famille Winery is a member of Taste of Nova Scotia and a stop on the Nova Scotia Good Cheer Trail. Visit us for wine tastings and vineyard tours in a beautiful setting steeped in history.
