Art, heritage & inspiration in downtown Amherst
Discover the creativity, character and landscapes of Nova Scotia at Focal Point Gallery & Framing, an independently owned gallery and framing shop in the heart of downtown Amherst.
Owned and operated by local resident Joan Cameron since 1998, Focal Point showcases the work of local and regional artists in a variety of mediums, including photography, painting, fibre art and more. Visitors can explore a dedicated Local Artists Wall, limited-edition works, and artwork by both established and emerging artists.
Many of the featured artists draw inspiration from the landscapes, communities and everyday beauty of Amherst, Cumberland County and the Maritimes, offering visitors an authentic connection to the region through art.
The gallery is located in a historic downtown commercial space dating to Amherst’s late-19th-century period of growth, when the community was known as “Busy Amherst.” The building reflects traditional regional craftsmanship and local architectural character. The space was once home to Ormond’s Drug Store, a familiar downtown apothecary and community fixture through the mid-20th century.
Today, Focal Point Gallery brings together art, local heritage and Maritime inspiration in a welcoming downtown setting. Whether you are looking for an original piece to take home, interested in discovering Nova Scotia artists, or simply enjoy exploring local galleries, Focal Point offers a unique glimpse into the creativity and character of Amherst and the Maritimes.
Come discover local artists, explore Maritime-inspired artwork and experience a piece of Amherst’s living history.
