Overview
Freedom: Culinary Culture
Freedom is a culinary and cultural kiosk on the Halifax Waterfront that celebrates the heritage, creativity, and flavours of African Nova Scotian communities. We serve handheld comfort food with roots in African Nova Scotian tradition — including cornbread, Blueberry Grunt, and our signature wings. Stop by to savour our expanded menu with four new sandwiches, new for 2026, including our Brothers pepperoni sandwich topped with Grandma’s sweet mustard, cheddar cheese and crunchy sweet slaw.
You can also find Freedom: Culinary Culture at the Halifax Brewery Market on Saturdays from 8 am – 1 pm.
More than just a place to eat, Freedom offers a rich educational experience—sharing powerful stories, uplifting community, and inviting all to engage with the vibrant and unique African Nova Scotian culture that has shaped Nova Scotia for over 400 years.
Make your next gathering a cultural experience. Freedom: Culinary Culture offers catering and educational catering for private celebrations and gatherings, meetings, and groups including buffets, boxed lunches, and platters. Dietary needs and accommodations are available.
Here’s what our visitors have to say:
“The wings were amazing, so good. The cornbread, I’ve never had that good of cornbread before!”
