Description: Welcome to your ‘Bed On The Beach’ in Nova Scotia
Guests who love the ocean love it here! 3 Moonlight Beach Suites has been welcoming guests to their oceanfront paradise since 1996. This unique oceanfront vacation destination is located directly on the open ocean on beautiful Lawrencetown Beach (not on a bay or inlet). Where most people have a backyard, you will have an ocean beach! You can drift off to sleep to the soothing sounds of the surf, awake to the smell of the fresh salt air, and enjoy the beautiful views of the extraordinary coastal scenery and the ever-changing ocean waves!
We offer 3 self-contained suites with private entrances and own decks overlooking the ocean; in-room kitchenettes and sitting areas; ensuite bathrooms with either a whirlpool tub or a combination tub, shower & steam bath. Each suite is decorated with a luxurious yet casual and romantic seaside theme and has all the conveniences of home.
Your hosts work to provide everything to insure your stay is as enjoyable as possible. Each suite features:
your own furnished deck overlooking the ocean
very comfortable queen-size bed and an equally comfortable double-size pull-out sofa-bed
your own sitting area in your room with a cozy fireplace and cable TV
free wireless internet in-room
fluffy robes, hairdryer, clock radio, bathroom amenities
beach towels & beach chairs
Activities
Hike or cycle (bikes provided) for miles along the Trans Canada Trail which abuts this property, or follow one of the local paths less travelled to savour the beautiful coastal scenery… maybe seeking out some geocaches along the way.
Surfing, swimming, boogie-boarding, building sandcastles on the beach or just relaxing with a good book and a cool drink as you feel the sand between your toes. Or enjoy a kayak trip (available for a nominal fee) on one of the 2 nearby lakes. There are also several very good golf courses nearby.
If the weather is inclement or you just want to relax inside, you can take advantage of the common room; have a game of pool, perhaps play a board game or do a puzzle… or soak away your stresses in the hot tub.
Points of Interest
3 Moonlight Beach Suites is very centrally located for taking daily sightseeing trips to other areas of the Province. You can easily spend a week (or more) following some of the hosts’ suggestions (along with directions) for excursions suited to your personal tastes.
See the highest tides in the world at the Bay of Fundy (just 1.5 hr away)
visit Peggy’s Cove (50 min away)
the UNESCO Heritage site of Lunenburg (1.5 hr away)
Hope for Wildlife (5 min away)
Guests are always so amazed to find such a relaxing, oceanfront location, seemingly miles away from civilization, yet close enough that, if you want, you can enjoy the benefits of city life, too.
The historic capital city of Halifax is just a half hour away (as is the airport). Fine dining, pubs, music & entertainment, shopping, museums, art galleries, cultural exhibits, dancing, festivals of all types, etc. There are also various water tours available in Halifax Harbour; fishing, nature & whale watching, sailing, etc.

As we are new on the scene, we have more rooms that have yet to be outfitted. Want to maintain your yoga routine – bring your mat, we’ve got a room for that. Kids, play room? You bet – on the second floor a pint sized room ready for block building, game playing or reading.

Digby Neck, Long Island and Brier Island are arguably the Whale Watching Capital of the World and guests to The Acadian Country Home have lots of choice when it comes to Whale watching operators. The exciting Ocean Exploration Zodiac Whale Cruises describe themselves as ‘Nova Scotia’s most exciting and popular whale/sea bird cruises!’ We’ve done the cruise and were delighted to see whales, along with harbour porpoises and birds.
* Kejimkujik National Park:
Kejimkujik (or Keji for short!) features abundant lakes and rivers ideal for canoeing. The lush woodlands and rolling landscape are home to a variety of wildlife and visitors may enjoy historic canoe routes including portages as well as many beautiful hiking trails.
Parks Canada says that Kejimkujik provides the best canoeing country in Nova Scotia. You don’t have to be an experienced canoe handler to enjoy the quiet lakes and gently flowing rivers as guided canoe outings are given throughout the summer by park interpreters. This is also an ideal place for first time canoers or children to learn how to pilot these vessels.
Cyclists may use their own bikes or rent one and then enjoy the 5 multi purpose trails in the park. For those that prefer the security of their own two feet, Keji offers a trail for everyone.
Festivals and Other Activities:
* Largest annual gathering of Acadians each late July/early August
* Gran Fondo Bike Race in September
* St. Mary’s University
* Blue’s Festival
* Belliveau Cove Saturday Market
* Lots of local musical talent to sample
* hunting and fishing
And of course…. Seafood. Whether you want to treat yourself at one of the local restaurants or buy it fresh at the nearby fishery and cook at “home” the choices are many.

Description: Join us at L’Acadie de Chezzetcook / Acadian House Museum to experience our exciting and unique Acadian culture. Learn about the coastal French village that once thrived in the West Chezzetcook and Grand Desert area. Nearby you will discover beautiful beaches with breathtaking sunsets, walking and hiking trails, local shops and our own gift store featuring lots of Acadian-themed memorabilia.
Take a step back in time with our guides, who will show you how the isolated Acadian community survived through the years. Their bright culture is still rich in history and full of emotion. Stop in to see what is growing in our vegetable garden, and open up the Cabano to see what antique tools were used for its upkeep.
Inside the Acadian House Museum (built in 1850), you will discover our collection of artifacts, placed to represent the era’s traditional living setting. However, the history of this building is much more than structural. The hole in the wall, the lady in white and the beautiful lilacs hidden behind the house are only a few of the many tales waiting to be told to you on your tour. Make sure to stop by the chicken coop too, the kids will love to watch the French hens peck away at their food.
Continue your visit by participating in our one of local demonstration of ancestral skills, such as bread baking in our outdoor oven, making of molasses pulled candy and barley toys, rug hooking, knitting/crocheting, butter churning, broom making and much more. Tour the Art Gallery, where you will find our most recent addition, a historic Acadian mural, painted by community members who were guided by artist Sylvie Boisvert.
Before you leave, make sure to grab a bite to eat at La Cuisine de Brigitte, our very own Acadian tea room. Take in the local art work while you sit in the café, or take your meal outside to our sunny picnic area. Both the cafe and patio are wheelchair accessible.
Come out for one of our many summer events that are held on site, please refer to our Facebook page, or website for accurate information.
Sunday afternoons – various traditional Acadian demonstrations.
Whether you tour an art exhibit, walk in our community garden, learn about an ancestral skill of local founding families, or visit our museum, you will love experiencing Acadian life as lived in Grand Desert and Chezzetcook.

Description: A community-minded provider of fresh and fresh-frozen seafood, dedicated to bringing low-impact fishing traditions back to the plates of consumers. Here at Afishionado Fishmongers we are knowledgeable and enthusiastic about our favourite subject – sustainably sourced seafood! For us, knowing the story behind the fish we sell is paramount.
We follow Ocean Wise certification as our main guide, a classification that ensures responsibility to a fishery’s abundance and catch method. We source locally as much as we can by building deep relationships with our region’s small-scale, community-based fishers and aquaculturists, and any Afishionado products that don’t have Ocean Wise Certification, such as our wild Atlantic Halibut and Cod, are fished using low-impact fishing methods, such as hook and line.
Located in the North End of Halifax, the Warehouse Market makes fresh, local, and sustainable food accessible to Haligonians. The Warehouse Market is a space for people to come together, ask questions about the products, talk to local farmers and fishmongers, exchange recipes, and just hang out!

Description: First settled in the 1830s, Africville was a thriving African Nova Scotian community nestled on the edge of Halifax Harbour. In the 1960s, its buildings were destroyed and residents displaced to free up land for Halifax’s industrial expansion.
Today, the Africville Museum stands in a replica of the Seaview United Baptist Church that was the emotional heart of Africville. Inside, audio-visual kiosks, pictures, descriptive panels, and artifacts tell the story of the Africville community by commemorating the injustice of this destruction and celebrating the strong community spirit that still endures to this day. The site was designated a Canadian National Historic Site in 1997 and in 2024, was recognized as Canada’s first Place of History and Memory under UNESCO’s designation for Enslavement and the Slave Trade.
Africville Park, situated next to Africville Museum, offers scenic views of the Halifax Harbour and five informative panels along a 1 km trail, that tell stories of what life was like for residents of Africville. Panels were developed collaboratively between the Africville Genealogy Society, Africville Heritage Trust, and the city of Halifax.

Description: French follows below | Le français suit ci dessous
Be inspired by the fascinating life and work of Alexander Graham Bell – inventor, scientist, teacher, and devoted family man. Wake up your own spirit of innovation through diverse experiences, as you explore his inventions that helped shape our modern world.
Marvel at full-scale replicas of the Silver Dart airplane and HD-4 watercraft, take the White Glove Tour for a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the genius of Bell, or Come Fly a Kite overlooking the beautiful water views of Baddeck Bay.
Bell’s interest in unique shapes and designs comes to life at Alexander Graham Bell National Historic Site. The inspiring architecture guides all visitors through exhibits and multimedia displays that are wheelchair accessible via ramps, and offer ample space to explore, reflect, and discover.
The site sits in the traditional and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq. The Bells fell in love with the natural beauty of the island first known as Unama’ki, and their story is interwoven with that of the many settlers and cultures that continue to thrive here today.
More than the telephone!
Did you know that Bell’s career began as a teacher of deaf and hearing impaired people? His curiosity and determination would lead to Canada’s first powered flight, the world’s fastest watercraft, advanced recording technology, giant tetrahedral kites and, of course, the telephone. Many of these remarkable inventions first took flight (literally!) in the scenic community of Baddeck, with the support of his wife Mabel Hubbard Bell and a group of innovators they inspired around them.
Family fun
Do you love to discover new things? Think you might be the next big inventor in technology and science? Alexander Graham Bell National Historic Site offers fun and inspiring experiences, perfect for young geniuses and the young at heart. Ask one of the friendly Parks Canada staff to enroll you in the Xplorers program or Club Parka, learn about hands-on experiments you can do at home, and let your imagination take flight with our popular kite programs.
Bell’s legacy tells us to embrace playfulness and creativity at every age. Archival photos show the whole Bell family, from children to grandchildren, sharing in the fun of exciting experiments. Make your own family memories that will last a lifetime!
Admission for youth aged 17 and under is free!
Accessibility
The Alexander Graham Bell National Historic Site features a single accessible building surrounded by terraced green spaces, inclined paved pathways, with accessible parking to the left of the main entrance. Inside, ramps guide visitors from the lobby to the mezzanine of the Water Hall, where various exhibits, including family-friendly workshops and artifact tours are accessible. An elevator is located in the Water Hall, which takes visitors to the lower level that houses both the Hydrofoil and Silver Dart replica. The site also offers accessible washrooms on the mezzanine of the Water Hall and in the freestanding building adjacent to the left of the main entrance.
Outdoor experiences
Discover Mabel Bell’s historic contributions in Mabel’s Gardens, new interpretive gardens developed in collaboration with Ecosystem Health and Food Security researcher Dr. Alana Pindar and the Alexander Graham Bell Foundation. Learn about the innovative practices Mabel used at the original gardens at Beinn Bhreagh and how you can create your own sustainable garden through this new, interactive space on the grounds of the museum.
The museum’s rooftop viewing deck provides a panoramic view of the Bells’ beloved “Beinn Bhreagh” (Gaelic for “beautiful mountain”) home still owned by their descendants and Baddeck Bay, part of the UNESCO Bras d’Or Lake Biosphere Reserve.
Take a moment to reflect at the First Peoples exhibit, located on the museum’s rooftop, overlooking Pitu-paq: the Bras d’Or Lake. Get a glimpse into the long history and living culture of the Mi’kmaq, as you take in the natural beauty of Unama’ki (Cape Breton Island).
Picnic tables, including one accessible for mobility-impaired visitors, are located adjacent to the rooftop viewing deck. Savour local flavours from the Tetra Café located inside the museum or enjoy take-out from one of the many restaurants within walking distance.
Don’t forget to capture a picture-perfect moment in the iconic Parks Canada red chairs overlooking Baddeck Bay. Relax and enjoy the water views, lush gardens, and unique architecture of the museum, inspired by Bell’s tetrahedral kites.
Did you know that Alexander Graham Bell was an early believer in climate change? In 1914, Bell used the term “greenhouse effect” to describe the heating of the earth due to foreign particles in the atmosphere. He also advocated for replacing coal and oil with cleaner forms of energy. You can follow Bell’s vision of a greener future when you use our electric vehicle charging stations to “fuel” the next part of your trip.

Description: Originally the Home of Senator William Duff and family, Alicion Bed & Breakfast is a beautiful, historic estate circa 1911, ideally situated in Lunenburg in the scenic South Shore region of Nova Scotia. Combining an eco-friendly approach with spacious comfort and historic charm, Alicion Bed & Breakfast honours and commits to the preservation of a gracious estate, while embracing green products and practices. We have created a unique look inspired by the beauty of our natural surroundings, and strive to provide an environmentally-friendly experience without compromising comfort.
Located on a quiet corner, we are a 10-minute stroll to Old Town Lunenburg and its many attractions. Lunenburg remains one of the few communities in North America where traditional shipbuilding skills, such as those that built the famous Bluenose, symbol of Canada’s sailing supremacy in the 1920s and 1930s, can be found. Visit the Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic and see the dozens of exhibit galleries, activities, daily talks and hands-on demonstrations, and view the famous Bluenose II in dry dock.
Explore the art galleries and shops where you can see displayed work by fine artisans capturing the tradition of their maritime heritage in their work, from hand carved duck decoys, to ship models, to pottery and beautiful paintings. A Lunenburg whale watching tour affords a unique glimpse of the rugged coastline, colourful lighthouses and historic harbour of Lunenburg, and a host of whale species and other marine life.
Travel to the nearby town of Mahone Bay and take in the beautiful harbour graced by the famous three churches, the most photographed in Canada.
Our accommodations include four spacious, well-appointed rooms (King, Queen, Twin beds): large ensuite 4-piece bath (two with hydrotherapy tub). Furnished with antiques, there is also a flat screen television and wireless Internet available to guests. A full breakfast of organic foods, locally grown and sourced, is served. Relax on the graceful veranda or take in the view of the beautiful gardens. We supply high-quality eco-friendly bath products, and linens and bedding are natural and organic. We are a non-smoking accommodation. We are a proud member of the Nova Scotia Bed and Breakfast Association and the Tourism Industry Association of Nova Scotia. Visa, MasterCard and Direct Debit are accepted.
Cancellation Policy: Must cancel 72 hours prior to day of arrival; stays of three nights or more require one night deposit (per room), fully refundable up to 14 days prior to arrival. 72-hour cancellation policy on the balance.
A member of Inns of Nova Scotia.

Alternative Routes offers a daily hop-on-hop-off service that visits Peggy’s Cove, Lunenburg, and the Annapolis Valley. We take the alternative routes, the roads that are less traveled, to visit places that have locals wanting to be tourists when they see our Instagram stories.
Looking for a guided day trip tour? Stay on all day and use Alternative Routes as a day tour — visit the highlights while learning from our expert guides or take advantage of our hop-on-hop-off option and spend the night (or two or more) anywhere along our route!

Description: The Amherst Point Migratory Bird Sanctuary, located along the Maccan River in Amherst Point in the Bay of Fundy & Annapolis Valley region, is a nationally protected habitat with an incredible ecosystem and seasonal home to many species of birds – approximately 228 species of birds have been identified here.
One thousand hectares of marsh and forest combine to create this sanctuary with some eight kilometers of trails that wind through this diverse landscape to explore.
The sanctuary has a 2.5 km interpretive hiking trail around Layton’s Lake – the first half of the trail is predominantly open with a forest of fir, aspen, yellow birch, spruce, white birch and red maple aging at least 300 years old. The last portion of the trail offers a hillside view of the lake and a great picnic spot. The sanctuary is also a habitat for wildlife, such as the red squirrel, snowshoe hare and muskrat.
Enjoy hiking, bird and wildlife watching year-round with snowshoeing and cross-country skiing in the wintertime.

Description: Amos Pewter designs and hand crafts pewter jewellery, home décor, ornaments & tableware in an open studio located in Mahone Bay on the scenic South Shore of Nova Scotia. Our artisans began making pewter designs in 1974 in the vacant boat building shop (circa 1880) that houses the workshop today.
Book a guided tour or visit our interpretive workshop where our talented artisans demonstrate their craft. Watch as they carefully ladle hot, free-flowing molten pewter from the melting pot and capture it in a spinning mould to cast our products. Once removed from the mould, each piece is carefully hand-finished in a process that ensures excellence in craftsmanship.
