Overview

Embark on an unforgettable five-day sailing voyage from Halifax, Nova Scotia to Sable Island National Park Reserve. Enjoy wildlife, local history and pristine nature with up to three days of access to Sable Island.

  • Sail from the historic Halifax waterfront to the breathtaking landscapes of Sable Island National Park Reserve aboard SV Malla, with Sable Ocean Adventures. Designed for comfort and adventure, the Northwind 47 is equipped for ocean sailing, ensuring safety and enjoyment on this unforgettable five-day journey.
  • Enjoy luxury on the open ocean with chef-catered meals and snacks, comfortable cabins, and two bathrooms onboard the boat.
  • Hear local stories from your highly trained mariner Captain and crew.
  • Spend up to three days and two anchored nights at Sable Island National Park Reserve to explore all areas of the island (with the exception of exclusion zones), with all Parks Canada permit fees included and multiple landfall locations. This unique adventure will give you the chance to see more of Sable Island than any other method of travel:
    • Witness the majestic wild horses that roam freely on Sable Island and the largest colony of grey seals in the world.
    • Look for the rare Ipswich Sparrow found exclusively thriving among Sable Island’s windswept dunes and coastal meadows. Sable Island hosts more than 350 migratory bird species as a vital stopover.
    • See shipwrecks scattered along Sable Island’s shores. With hundreds of historic shipwrecks, a few are visible today with the possibility to discover more with the ever-changing sand dunes.

Price: $4750 + HST per person. Book up to four guests per trip. A 25% refundable deposit required to confirm booking. Full payment is due 45 days before departure.

Good to Know:

  • Tours depart on Monday mornings and return on Friday evenings. See the sailing itinerary HERE.
  • Good physical mobility for both moving around the sailboat and hiking the beaches and dunes at Sable Island NPR is recommended. Exploring the island is by foot only, walking for up to 6-8 hours on sand and dunes. Guests must be physically capable of boarding and disembarking the vessel by way of a ladder.
  • Bring a waterproof jacket and pants. Layers will be very important both on the boat and on the island. Be prepared to be cold. Be prepared to be hot. Temperatures can swing by more than 20 degrees Celsius (68 degrees F) in a day. Find a full recommended packing list HERE.
