Overview
Discover an age-old trade that’s experiencing a modern revival at the Hector Heritage Quay.
Become an apprentice blacksmith – for a few hours anyway! Learn a trade from a by-gone era from our resident blacksmith, Valentin Velchev. From starting a coal fire and heating metal to pounding it into shape and creating a work of art you can enjoy for years to come. It will be a dirty, smelly and oh so satisfying experience. Workshops can be tailored to experience level.
Experience includes:
- All materials and tools
- Safety equipment required for blacksmithing
- Opportunity to learn from a skilled craftsman
- Work of art to take home
Length: 3 hours, with a 10-minute break
Offered: Wednesday to Sunday, June 18 to September 30, 2026
Time: 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. OR 1 p.m. – 4 p.m.
Price: Adults over 16 years of age, $106 plus tax. Members or season pass holders receive a 15 per cent discount.
Good to Know:
- This course is meant to be a one-on-one blacksmithing experience and is suitable for one person only
- Participants must wear closed toed shoes and pants.
- Water bottles are encouraged.
- There are only 2 spots (morning and afternoon) available each day.
- Participants must be 16 years of age and be able to lift at least 10 lbs.
- Participants will be required to stand most of the day and work in a hot environment.
Cancellations made up to 24 hours before arrival time will be refunded 100% of the booking fee. Cancellations within 24 hours of arrival time will be refunded 50% of the booking fee. On days when it is too hot to provide the course booking fees will be refunded 100% and a free day pass will be provided to the Hector Heritage Quay.
