Sit back and take in the shoreline views while your guide shares the history of Halifax Harbour, the city of Halifax, and the surrounding area. The Violet Mac is a 1930s river launch style boat, environmentally friendly and built for comfort, with shade from the summer sun and soft upholstered seating for up to eight guests.

Halifax Harbour Tours, founded in 2019 by Colin Smith and Glenna Thornhill, introduced the one-hour harbour tour to the bustling Halifax Waterfront. Before launching Halifax Harbour Tours, Colin ran the Halifax Harbour Hopper for seven years and Glenna was a palliative care nurse. Seven seasons on, they are still operating this popular boat tour.

Tours run from mid-May to late fall. Book by the seat on a scheduled departure or book the whole boat so the trip belongs to your group alone. Full-boat bookings are available daily and on request, subject to availability.

New for 2026 – the Halifax Explosion Tour with Maritime Museum of the Atlantic guide Kara Gordon-MacKay. For music lovers, Halifax Harbour Tours has welcomed back Tunes on the Water with musician Dan McKinnon, taking place on Thursday and Friday evenings all summer long.

Halifax Harbour Tours boat tours are suitable for all ages and most physical abilities. The step from the ramp to the boat is a barrier to powerchairs, scooters, and wheelchairs.
