Overview

Welcome to the Inverness Miners Museum! Since its founding in 1979, the museum has been owned and operated by the Inverness Historical Society. Located at 46.23554, -61.30110, our new accessible building offers visitors an interactive and engaging historical experience in the care of our passionate team of local historians. Whether you are passing through our community, or rooted by generations to Cape Breton’s coast, the Inverness Miners Museum will help you understand those who formed this community.

Come and visit our exhibits to find out how the quiet, rural Broad Cove of the 1800s transformed into the thriving cultural, tourist, and sporting center that is modern-day Inverness. Learn how coal mining intersected with the development of labour unions, railways, and community leadership, and view artifacts that tell the powerful stories of survival and determination through adversity.

As always, our aim is to preserve, interpret, and conserve the history of Inverness and its coal mining past. We look forward to welcoming you to starting your Digging Deeper adventure into the past.
