Overview

Join us for a Wolfville’s Wood Fired Cookout

Welcome to one of Canada’s Most Diverse Agricultural Regions, The Annapolis Valley – where  the Bay of Fundy meets the Slow Food community of Wolfville.

Come on down! Join the Wolfville’s firemasters for an evening of cooking with fire, connecting in community, and sharing stories at Wolfville’s wood fired community oven. Experience the magic of lighting a wood fired oven,  cooking over fire using local and seasonal ingredients of the Annapolis Valley, and chat with Wolfville foodies, artists, chefs, and other community members over a shared supper. Be a part of Wolfville’s weekly Community Cookout!

Your adventure begins with a taste of whatever is in season and lighting the fire in the oven. Together we’ll tend the fire and begin preparing and slow roasting fresh local ingredients before the rest of the community arrives for the cookout. In the oven’s outdoor kitchen, you’ll get to experience what a typical day at the community oven is like, you’ll learn how cook in a wood-fired oven with locals, and hear stories of our community food adventures in Wolfville. Over cooking and eating supper together, you’ll get to connect with the local community and we’ll get to enjoy meeting and connecting with you.

Examples from previous community suppers include:

  • Ahmed’s wood-fired Egyptian style pitas made from local Acadia and Red Fife flour with local curtido pickles, tahini sauce, beans, fresh veggies, and fire roasted veggies
  • Eleonora’s Wolfville and Italy inspired pizza made from local flours, local cured meats, local mozzarella, and tomatoes from the garden
  • Duncan’s Farinata (aka chickpea flour pizza) with local basil pesto, garlic, sun-dried tomatoes, and local fresh cheese
  • Wood fired tacos filled with local fish or black beans and seasonal vegetables
  • All served with a side of community spirit

Every week is different and the meals are brought alive by the amazing culinary community of Wolfville.

Experience includes:

  • 2.5 hour guided wood fired cooking session using local and seasonal ingredients
  • Authentic  connecting with community food producers, community food leaders, chefs, and community members in a slow food town and fair trade town
  • The freshest Slow Food (good, clean, and fair) and locally sourced food for our feast
  • Community impact: a portion of the proceeds goes towards free and accessible food programming right here at the Oven
