Overview
Within an hours’ drive you can explore two distinct time periods in earth’s history by exploring many sites within the Cliffs of Fundy UNESCO Global Geopark and visiting Joggins Fossil Cliffs UNESCO World Heritage Site and the Fundy Geological Museum.
- 300 million years ago in the Coal Age, the one world Pangea took shape. 200 million years ago in the Age of Dinosaurs, it began to rip apart, and the modern world was born. The Cliffs of Fundy is the home of the legendary Kluscap and steeped in his legends. The origin of the Five Islands, the Three Sisters, and the special significance of Partridge Island are but a few of these stories and places.
- Joggins Fossil Cliffs UNESCO World Heritage Site is famed for having the world’s most complete fossil record of life in the Carboniferous, or “Coal Age” when lush forests covered Joggins and much of the world’s tropics 300 million years ago.
