Anchor Tours will pick you up at your downtown Halifax hotel, cruise ship terminal, or agreed upon meeting point prior to starting the tour. Your tour begins as you depart Halifax at 9:00 AM and travel to the timeless fishing village of Halls Harbour, located in Nova Scotia’s Bay of Fundy.
Originally settled in 1826 by families who emigrated from the nearby Province of New Brunswick, Halls Harbour’s primary industry was forestry and the export of of timber and agricultural goods by way of the sea. Ship building was also very important to the area and a substantial number of vessels were produced there for almost 50 years, well into the early 1900’s.
Over the years, as the supply of timber was depleted, fishing became the primary source of income and remains the main industry in the area today.
Halls Harbour lies along the shore of Nova Scotia’s, Bay of Fundy. Here, you will get to witness the highest tides in the world, with tides rising and falling as much as 42′ in the area. It’s quite a site to see…pardon the pun.
You will spend approximately an hour exploring the area, seeing what rural life is like in one of Nova Scotia’s many coastal fishing villages.
