Overview

Step into “Acacia Grove,” an elegant Georgian house nestled in the picturesque Annapolis Valley. This historic site was the home of Charles Prescott, a visionary horticulturist who played a pivotal role in establishing Nova Scotia’s apple industry from 1811 to 1859. He introduced many apple varieties to the province and was instrumental in founding the Nova Scotia Fruit Growers Association.

Through the efforts of his great-granddaughter, Mary Allison Prescott, the neglected house was restored in the 1930s. Now known as Prescott House Museum, this National and Provincial Historic Site showcases family portraits, antique furnishings, and Miss Prescott’s collection of hand-stitched samplers and Oriental carpets.

Enjoy the tranquillity of the surrounding gardens and lush countryside with a picnic on the grounds, sitting in the garden or just strolling around the property. From June to October, vibrant flower displays brighten the informal English garden’s rock garden, rose garden, and perennial borders. The garden was initially designed in 1935 by Scottish landscape gardener Mary Stewart, known for her work on prominent gardens in Quebec.

Prescott House Museum is conveniently located in Starr’s Point (Highway 101, Exit 11 to Port Williams, right on Starr’s Point Road off Highway 358) in the Bay of Fundy & Annapolis Valley region. Bus tours are welcome, making it an ideal destination for history and nature enthusiasts.
