Inned of the Rainbow
Overview
Inned of the Rainbow is nestled on the Northumberland Strait on Pictou Island, with its sandstone bluffs, red soil fields and beautiful, sandy beaches. A modern, off-the-grid home on 50 acres of land, we abide by the principle of reduce, reuse, recycle and respect, using a combination of solar and wood to make our power and heat.
Pictou Island is a paradise for beachcombers, birdwatchers, wildlife enthusiasts, swimmers, and sunbathers of all ages. John MacCallum Memorial Park is less than one kilometer away on the East End, one of the loveliest beaches on the island, where you can have a romantic picnic or simply stroll along the shoreline. There is a lovely old Dance Hall located mid-island, where local events are held. Visit the Sutherland Presbyterian Church, which was built in 1910 and now holds only one service per year.
Our accommodations include three spacious oceanview rooms (queen-sized beds), three private 2-piece baths and two shared baths (3-piece with shower and 4-piece). Each bathroom is fitted with a dual-flush toilet. Laundry is dried in the fresh air and sunshine. A continental breakfast is included.
There is a private beach for guest use. You can curl up with a good book in the quiet living room or take in the view from the wraparound veranda overlooking the water. Bikes are provided for exploring the 10-kilometer island.
We are open May 1 to November 30.
