Ice House Cottage
Overview
Nestled in the centuries-old fishing community of Birchy Head on Nova Scotia’s South Shore, The Ice House Cottage is only a stone’s throw away from the waters of St. Margaret’s Bay. Formerly used to store ice for the fishing trade, the post-and-beam building has been restored into a cozy seaside cottage. Watch the beautiful sunrises, the waves lapping the shore, passing fishing boats an occasional whale or dolphin and smell the salt sea air, all without ever leaving the wrap-around deck. A second cottage dates back to 1860 and was at one time a post office, a general store, and most recently a toy shop. Less than an hour from the communities of Chester, Mahone Bay, Lunenburg and Peggys Cove, you can spend an afternoon perusing boutiques, shops and galleries, or visit the famous Peggys Cove Lighthouse, one of the most photographed lighthouses in Canada, which is perched atop massive granite boulders worn smooth by the pounding waves.
Our accommodations include two spacious one-bedroom cottages (Queen, Murphy bed) with full bath, cable television, high speed internet, radio, full appliances, and a gas barbecue. Slipway access to the ocean is perfect for kayaking.
