Herons Watch Oceanfront Vacation Home at the Narrows Basin is a remarkable family cottage retreat situated on the peninsula portion of Martin’s River in the South Shore region. Seven hundred feet of oceanfront wraps around the east and south sides of the house, affording a magnificent 270-degree view of the protected tidal bay. Once can spend hours watching the shorebirds and other wildlife in their natural habitat of beach grasses, seaweeds, rocks and tidal flats.
There are experienced kayak and small sail instructors nearby for those who want to polish their skills. Perhaps the whole family would enjoy a day-sail out to one of Mahone Bay’s famous islands or an evening sail tour of Lunenburg Harbour on the Eastern Shore. There are so many uncrowded beaches in the area, one could go to a different beach every day of one’s stay.
Enjoy the many historical and scenic sights on the beautiful South Shore – Mahone Bay’s Three Churches, the world-famous lighthouse at Peggy’s Cove, the UNESCO World Heritage Town of Lunenburg, Fort Pointe Ste. Marie on the Lahave River, the exquisite Hirtle’s Beach, Ovens Natural Park with this sea caves and gold – all within an hour’s drive. You may also wish to take a day trip to Kejimkujik National Park, the orchards of Annapolis Royal, or the busting downtown of Halifax.
Our accommodations include a bright 3-bedroom house (twin and queen beds), 4 baths (2- and 3-piece – one shower, one whirpool), cable television, DVD player, CD player, library, washer and dryer, dishwasher and security system. To help our guests enjoy the peaceful environment, the house has a large, custom-built multi-level front deck with trellis, picnic table, benches and propane barbeque. A canoe is available to help you explore the shoreline from the water, as well as two bicycles for heading down the trail or along the picturesque side roads of the area. The pièce de resistance: the outdoor hot tub from which you can enjoy the daytime view or gaze at the stars.
