The Flying Dutchman B&B is a charming Cape Cod-style home overlooking the ocean in Hackett’s Cove in the scenic South Shore region of Nova Scotia. Once a schoolhouse, guests can relax in our home, warmly decorated in knotty pine, or entertain on the deck with its beautiful ocean view.
We are minutes away from Peggy’s Cove and its world famous lighthouse; a 45 minute drive to Mahone Bay with its famed Three Churches and Amos Pewter; a one hour drive will take you to the UNESCO World Heritage Town of Lunenburg, home of the schooner Bluenose II; and a 45 minute drive to bustling downtown Halifax. All are replete with boutiques, art galleries, shops and fine dining establishments.
For those who long for the great outdoors, hiking, kayaking and bicycling tours are nearby, or rent a kayak or bicycle and do some exploring on your own. We are an excellent site for kayak and canoe launching, using your own kayak or canoe and we have a jetty, floating dock and 2 large moorings.
Golf enthusiasts can enjoy Granite Springs Golf Course, combining both scenery and challenge overlooking Shad Bay, or the sculptured bent grass fairways, bluegrass roughs, paved paths and fully manicure practice facility at Glen Arbour Golf Course.
Guests may also wish to visit Ross Farm Museum, a living heritage farm that serves as a window into the past of Nova Scotia’s rich agricultural history with many things to see and do that the whole family will enjoy. Just beyond Lunenburg you can explore The Ovens where you will find natural caves.
Our accommodations include one spacious ocean view suite (queen-size bed) with ensuite 4 piece bath, cable television and mini fridge. Also available are two rooms (queen-size beds) with private 4 piece baths (one with a jet tub). All have Wi-Fi. Relax in our common/reading room with a small library, cable television and games. A full and generous breakfast is served. Laundry facilities are available. You may also choose to relax on our covered double swings located at our oceanfront lawn, while enjoying one of our magnificent sunsets (weather permitting). There is a barbecue, fire pit and salt water swimming to enjoy.
No pets please. Dutch, German and Frisian are spoke. Visa, MasterCard and Travellers Cheques are accepted. There is no tax.
