Yes, Oxford, Nova Scotia is considered the Wild Blueberry Capital of Canada.

Here, you will find luscious, flavourful blueberries in late July through August at markets and roadside stands. In Oxford you will also find the world’s largest blueberry statue, which makes for a great photo opportunity!

The Northumberland Shore is home to Sugar Moon Farm which is located near Tatamagouche.  This business is open year-round providing education on how maple syrup is made by offering maple experiences in the sugar woods. There is also a restaurant onsite with weekend maple-inspired brunches and special dining experiences.

That is a highly contested question here in Nova Scotia! Lobster is in season year-round in Nova Scotia, however the region in which it is fished changes throughout the year based on the fishing zones. In the Northumberland Shore region, lobster season is from late-April to late-June.

Two to four days is enough to experience many of the Northumberland Shore’s highlights, including warm-water beaches, coastal communities, provincial parks, and local food experiences. Visitors interested in exploring communities such as Pictou, Tatamagouche, and Pugwash, as well as hiking trails, museums, and seaside attractions, may want to stay longer. A slower pace allows more time to enjoy the coastline and beaches.

The Northumberland Shore is easily reached by car from Halifax and is best explored by vehicle. Having a car makes it easy to visit beaches, coastal communities, provincial parks, and attractions throughout the region. Distances are manageable, but many visitors spend more time than expected stopping at beaches, shops, restaurants, and scenic coastal viewpoints.

Late spring through fall offers the widest range of experiences on the Northumberland Shore. Summer is especially popular because the Northumberland Strait has some of the warmest ocean waters in Canada, making it ideal for beach vacations, swimming, paddling, and coastal road trips. Fall brings comfortable temperatures, colourful scenery, and fewer crowds. Many seasonal attractions and accommodations operate from spring through autumn.

Popular places to stay include Pictou, Tatamagouche, New Glasgow, Antigonish, and coastal communities throughout the region. Visitors can choose from seoceanfront cottages, campgrounds, inns, and unique accommodations near beaches and provincial parks.
