Event Details

“John Allan Cameron’s Last Show” at Strathspey Performing Arts Centre on July 22nd and 23rd is a play based around John Allan’s last CBC show, with his mother Katie Ann telling the back story of his life.

The Inverness County Community is looking forward to welcoming John Allan Cameron to the stage once more, and tickets are going quickly.

The West Side Performing Arts Cooperative is pleased to present “John Allan Cameron’s Last Show” at Strathspey Performing Arts Centre on July 22nd and 23rd.  John Allan (Peter MacInnis) will be joined on his CBC stage by a range of well-known Canadian entertainers such as Carroll Baker (Edna MacDonald), Stan Rogers (Rankin MacEachern) and Jerry Holland (Kyle MacDonald). John Allan’s mother, Katie Ann (Jacqueline Boyd), a local character in her own right, will be watching the show from the comfort of her living room in Mabou. A retrospective look back at the legacy of the Godfather of Celtic Music as he blazed the way on stages and TV screens across Canada and the US. Written in consultation with John Allan’s family, this show will give John Allan’s mother, Katie Ann, the first and last words, which is only fitting!

Written through consultation with John Allan’s son, Stuart, wife, Angela, and siblings, John Donald, Jessie and Cyril, Brenda MacLennan Dunphy has attempted to capture as many nuances of Katie Ann as possible while recreating the style and content of John Allan’s show. Featuring performances by Anne Murray (Lisa Cameron), Valdy and Ian Tyson (Barry Fougere) and Catherine MacKinnon (Joanne Rankin-MacIntyre).

With this show, the West Side Performing Arts Cooperative will be warming up the Strathspey Performing Arts Centre and welcoming the community back within its doors. Covid health protocols will be followed.

The show will combine the CBC show with a “Singalong Jubilee” feeling, allowing many of Nova Scotia and Canada’s brightest stars to make music together such as Anne Murray and Catherine McKinnon, Stan Rogers and Valdy. It’s a show sure to entertain!
