Nova Scotia Department of Tourism, Culture and Heritage and the Nova Scotia Tourism Partnership Council invite you to become a participant of an exciting and innovative visitor service program which will enable you, the operator, to identify your business as one which offers french language services. By promoting your ability to deliver visitor services in French, you will gain a competitive advantage in the marketplace, meeting the needs and expectations of an increasingly important market in Nova Scotia.

Following the submission of an application, using the online application form, and subsequent approval process, operators meeting the eligibility criteria will receive a membership kit, at no cost, including the following materials: Lapel Pins, Tent Cards and Door Decals.

Why Introduce This Program in Nova Scotia?

This pilot program is designed to meet the needs of French visitors, many of whom have indicated a need for French language services when traveling in Nova Scotia. In addition, Nova Scotia is graced with a rich culture, including a rich Acadian Heritage, and has preserved and cultivated a strong french language presence. This winning combination provides the perfect opportunity for eligible businesses, which offer service in French, to promote and be recognized for this ability, while better meeting the needs of French visitors.

Eligibility

The following types of businesses and organizations who meet specific criteria, are eligible to participate in the program: Fixed Roof Accommodations, Campgrounds, Attractions, Restaurants, Visitor Information Centres and Tour Operators.

Eligible businesses and organizations must meet the following criteria, in order to qualify for participation:

  • A minimum of one fully bilingual staff person in each front-line area during all hours of operation who is capable of providing all aspects of the service in the respective area.
  • The bilingual service must be delivered in a high quality manner.

Monitoring the Effectiveness of the program

In order to monitor the effectiveness of this initiative, participants may be visited by "mystery shoppers", who will ensure that operators consistently comply with program criteria.

Participating operators may also be asked to take part in evaluation efforts, through surveys, questionnaires, and personal interviews.
