Amherst Shore Provincial ParkNorthport. Rte 366, 6 km (4 mi) west of Northport. An unsupervised beach on the Northumberland Strait. Boardwalks, change rooms. Trail: 5 km (3 mi). Camping.

Arisaig Provincial ParkArisaig. Rte 245, west of Arisaig. A small picnic park. Fascinating geology; fossils can be seen in sedimentary rocks along shore. Boardwalk access to beach, picnic tables. Trail: 1 km (0.5 mi).

Bayfield Beach Provincial ParkBayfield. A beach park near Antigonish. Take Exit 36 off Hwy 104 and proceed 8 km (5 mi) north to beach. Picnic tables, change houses, parking; warm water. Supervised on weekends.

Caribou and Munroes Island Provincial ParkCaribou. 11 km (7 mi) north of junction of Rtes 6, 106 and 376 through Pictou. Open picnic area with access to a red-sand beach and warm water. Trails along shore to Munroe's Island. Camping.

Fox Harbour Provincial ParkNorth Wallace. 4 km (2.5 mi) north of Rte 6 and 6 km (3 mi) east of the paved road. A small, picturesque picnic park on the shore of Fox Harbour, with a beach and warm water. Change rooms.

Gulf Shore Provincial ParkGulf Shore. 5 km (3 mi) north of Pugwash. A beautiful picnic park on a hilltop overlooking Northumberland Strait. Tables, some sheltered, in an open field. Sandy beach with warm water.

Heather Beach Provincial Park

Port Howe. A provincial beach park 40 km (24 mi) southeast of Amherst; off Sunrise Trail/Rte 6 in Port Howe. An excellent beach, warm water; crowded on weekends. Small parking lot.

Malagash Blue Sea Beach ParkMalagash. Just off Rte 6. A beautiful wide, sandy beach. Shelters with tables, change houses, toilets, large parking lot.

Open: Seasonally.

Melmerby Beach Provincial ParkLittle Harbour. Melmerby Beach. Rte 289, 16 km (10 mi) north of Hwy 104, Exit 27A; follow signs. A popular 2-km (1.25-mi) beach with boardwalks. Change houses, FT, canteen, salt-rinse showers.

Northport Beach Provincial ParkNorthport. Rte 366, 3 km (2 mi) east of Northport. Open fields abutting on a red sandy beach accessible by stairs. Warm water and gentle tide. At low tide, sandbars trap pools of warm water for wading. Picnic tables.

Oxford Lions Club Picnic ParkOxford. Within 400 m/yd of Hwy 104. Site bordered by lake on three sides. Six tables, change houses.

Pomquet Beach Provincial ParkPomquet. A provincial beach park near Antigonish. Take Taylor Rd off Hwy 104 (between Exits 35 & 35); 10 km (6 mi) to beach. Change houses, FT, boardwalks, interpretive display.

Powells Point Provincial ParkNew Glasgow. Rte 289, north of New Glasgow; left at the shore road. A large picnic area by the warmest salt water in Nova Scotia. Sandy beach on one side, rocky on the other.

Rushtons Beach Provincial ParkBrule. Rte 6, 4 km (2.5 mi) east of Brule. Sheltered picnic grounds. Broad sandbars at low tide and the salt marsh attract a great variety of birds; warmest salt water in Nova Scotia.

Tidnish Dock Provincial ParkTidnish. North 400 m/yd off Rte 366 at Tidnish Cross Roads. This park marks the eastern terminal of the Chignecto Marine Transport Railway. Warm water, small beach, change rooms, interpretive signage; brochure available.

Waterside Beach Provincial ParkCaribou River. 3 km (2 mi) north of Rte 6, east of Caribou River. A combination of long sandy beach, salt marsh and open farmland. The long, wide beach is seldom crowded, and the water is very warm. Picnic tables.
