In the early summer of 1773, approximately two hundred Highland Scots boarded the Hector in search of a better life in the New World. These courageous pioneers established the first effective Scottish settlement in Nova Scotia. In recognition of the Hector's role in making Pictou the Birthplace of New Scotland, the New Scotland Days Living Heritage Festival is a community celebration of the pioneer spirit that shaped Pictou County and Nova Scotia. During the festival, special events are scheduled at the award winning Hector Heritage Quay and throughout the community. You can enjoy musical performances, participate in demonstrations on board the replica Ship Hector, meet re-enactors, and much, much more.
