Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic

The Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic is located on the bustling waterfront of Lunenburg, a UNESCO World Heritage town, where fishing vessels, cruise ships, and sailing boats come and go.

Celebrating and honouring all things related to Lunenburg and Nova Scotia’s seafaring and fishing heritage, this award-winning museum is open from mid-May to mid-October.  Amenities on site include:

Feel the pride of a nation as you explore the largest collection of Bluenose artifacts. Be humbled as you sit in reverence in the Fishermen’s Memorial room paying tribute to Lunenburg mariners lost at sea.

Listen to an old vessel creak and moan around you as you make your way from stem to stren aboard the Theresa E. Connor, the last of the salt bank schooners, and now a floating exhibit tied up wharfside.

Chat with a retired sea captain and hear first hand what life on the fishing grounds is really like. Watch the frenzy at feeding time at the Aquarium filled with regional aquatic life.

After a full day or two of exploring everything the museum has to offer, be sure to head over to the other side of Lunenburg Harbour and look across to where this remarkable museum stands. The view of Lunenburg’s waterfront is one of the prettiest images in Canada.
