Cape Breton's Celtic Music Centre

Situated in Judique, Inverness County in the Gaelic stronghold of Cape Breton Island, the Cape Breton Celtic Music Interpretive Centre is dedicated to promoting and preserving the music of this proud culture. Cape Breton is home to the world-famous Cabot Trail and Cape Breton Highlands National Park.

Guided tours of the Centre are available seven days a week from June through October. The Tom Rankin Exhibit Room, named for one of the island’s iconic fiddlers, is open year-round as are the Centre’s archives. Immerse yourself in the music, stories and videos stored in Centre’s vast collection of archival material preserving the language, tunes, and techniques of Celtic music heritage.

The Buddy McMaster School of Fiddling, an outreach of the Centre, offers week-long courses to intermediate and advanced fiddlers looking to enhance their music skills and knowledge.

With demonstrations every forty-five minutes during peak season, dive into a total Celtic experience at the Centre. Musicians and dancers fiddle, step dance, play the piano, and pipe in the unique traditions of Nova Scotia. You can sit in on an illustrated talk by a music history expert or try your own hand at fiddling or your own feet at step dancing.

The Centre proudly hosts events, concerts and programs as part of the Celtic Colours International Festival. Celtic Colours is an award winning nine day long event held each fall celebrating the music and stories of the Celtic culture.

After a visit to the Centre, head to the nearest ceilidh (a traditional Scottish gathering with dancing and music) for the full Celtic experience on Cape Breton Island.
